We are a generation who is highly conscious about health and will probably live a good 15 years longer than the preceding one owing to our attitudes about taking care of ourselves. But exercising the body is just the surface of the change that needs to take place for a truly healthy life experience. And beauty truly is only skin deep. No matter how many "treatments" or surgeries, we need to begin at the beginning which lies in our minds.
We continue to have more adults with stress-related health problems, eating or substance abuse disorders, anger management fiascos and depression than ever. We have a divorce rate over 50% and a remarriage failure rate over 60%. Obviously, working on the outside is not enough. We need to address the attitudes that create these life-harming events on the inside.
We need to debunk the myths about change such as: "Change is hard" or "My feelings will point the way" or even that "People can't really change." We've all heard about placebo miracles, or the 80-year-old who was diagnosed with a terminal disease but recovered well enough to run a marathon in his 90's. These events are more than possible or natural, they exist at all times in our minds.
